The Return to Ramanashram & Seshadri Ashram
Written by: Upasana Manem
One beautiful morning at Haritachala, we went to visit the Ramana Ashram and Seshadri Ashram just like we did the previous year. The excitement filled the air as we anticipated the same peace that the Ashrams gave us before, each of us ready for a meaningful experience. As we traveled in multiple cars, we headed to Ramana Ashram first. When we arrived, we were encouraged to explore at our own pace in order to fully immerse ourselves in the serene atmosphere.
First we visited Ramana Tataya's samadhi, where we paused to pay our respects and read a story from his life inscribed on the wall. After moving through the courtyard, we entered the meditation hall, where we settled in silence for as long as we wished. Sitting there allowed each of us to reflect deeply on ourselves and to recall Ramana Tataya’s inspiring stories. As we sat in the meditation hall, the gentle sounds of the chirping birds, squealing monkeys, singing peacocks, and a fresh breeze created a calm and refreshing atmosphere. We then spent some time in the main hall, did a few pradakshina, and visited the bookstore, where we explored various books about Ramana Tataya’s life and teachings.
Our next stop was the Seshadri Ashram. As we prepared ourselves to gain as much as we could from the experience, we entered the Ashram. After completing several pradakshina, we gathered outside under a beautiful tree that let its long leaves flow down. We sat there with all of the geckos, volunteers, and Sruti Akka as we shared thoughts and gratitude about the peaceful essence of the Ashrams and the unique opportunity to be part of it once again.
